I forgot how much I enjoyed working on older cars. I never really had any cool cars growing up, and my dad’s extent of car mechanics ends at changing a tire… but my first car was an 8 year old Buick that I put way too much time and money into. By the time it was said and done, I had a new headliner, new carpet, cleaned seats, new paint job, new engine, 2 custom 10″ subs in the back (lazer baby!) with custom built amps too, with a disc changer (those were cool in 1996), tinted windows, and a pretty rad pinstripe (if you know me, you know what this is about). While most of it was done by professionals
I still got to spend a lot of time working on it.
The Corvette is a fun hobby. I have enjoyed putting the carpet in, and getting a few other things fixed up on it. With the helps of some great friends, we’ve put all new brakes on the front (rotors, calipers, pads, and hoses) and I’ve got all new plugs, wires, and belts waiting for their turn. Some things are worth fixing on it, and some I’ve determined aren’t. My emblems are pretty worn out on the car, and new ones are about $80 a pop. When you multiply that times 4, it adds up to just get new emblems on the Corvette. It would like nice, but I don’t have that kind of cash. So off to the hobby store I went, and spent about an hour tonight painting the emblems myself (something the body shop didn’t even want to do).
So, what do you think?
Here is what the old emblems look like:
